anessa is a former dancer/choreographer turned award winning playwright, screenwriter, and director based in London. She draws from her working class and queer identities to create genre and gender-bending stories about unlikely heroes and magical misfits.
She has written multiple short films that have been BAFTA shortlisted, screened at many Oscar qualifying festivals, and have won jury awards from SXSW, TIFF, and the Austin Film Festival. Her play 'The Call' won an Emerging Talent Award at Chiswick Theatre, was then developed with the BFI Network, and has played major festivals including the London Film Festival, LSFF, and won Best Film at several festivals including 225 Film Club. Her recent film 'THE WEIGHT' premiered at BAFTA qualifying Aesthetica in November and will be at Manchester Film Festival next month. She was nominated for the Film London Lodestar award for writers (2025) in January, and is a current BAFTA Connect member.
